Without backing liner paper, the adhesive is exposed inside the printer. Therefore, the platen rollers, cutting blades, and paper feed path must be manufactured with non-stick silicone-infused polymers. Additionally, heavy-duty mechanical cutters must be designed to slice through both the paper and the residual adhesive without gumming up or requiring constant cleaning.
